First Opinion

I purchased these to be used in my generic 5 gallon buckets at home. Unfortunately they do not fit which i thought was odd as it mentions the item will fit in any 12" diameter bucket.
ProsWell made Good price

No rocket science here, keeps your mitts and towels from ever touching the bottom of the bucket, ensure that the diameter fits your buckets though

2 bucket wash perfect
May 12, 2017
I love them. Works great. The best thing when your done with your wash empty it out throw some water and a APC in there with the grit guard and you can agitate and soak all your spent pads to keep the grime from setting until your ready for clean up.
ProsThey work
ConsThey don't fit every 5 gallon bucket. I just made some homemade spacers out of plastic 1/8" tile floor spacers left over from our bathroom remodel. Slip them between the edge of the grit guard and bucket stays in place.

Grit guard
December 24, 2016
The grit guard works exactly as advertised, keeping the grit such as sand and dirt away from the cleaning pad. It even has finger holes to aid in removing the piece from buckets that may be just a little bit small.

Great Product
September 17, 2016
This product works great. I can see all the dirt that is trapped on the bottom on the bucket and not ending up on my car. I use the two bucket method and used two of these in the dirty bucket and one is the other. It also serves at a great wash board for the wash mitt.
ProsVery reasonable cost and works well

Every car owner needs this
September 12, 2016
Of all the tools to have, this is the most important to ensure a swirl free car wash. Keeps dirt and dust particles trapped at the bottom of the bucket. The proof is when you poor out the buckt after the wash. It will surprise you how much dirt it traps. Must have 2 for 2 bucket wash method.
ProsQuality built. Works well and fits in most wash buckets.

Need yellow for Grit Guard pad washer. Very frustrating to line up the small dome when it's black on black. Should come this way on pad washer.l

Clever idea
August 12, 2015
A simple idea that works well. Fits perfectly in the bottom of the five-gallon bucket I use for car washing. It allows any grit and dirt in the wash water to settle safely out of reach of a sponge or mitt. Is it necessary? I don't know. For the price, if it keeps one scratch off my new truck, it's worth it.

Simple, Works
July 16, 2015
A simple product. Scrubs the dirt out of the mitt and I saw the dirt remain in the bottom of the bucket. Fits right in a home depot 5 gallon bucket.
ProsCheap Fits good

Unless you love scratched paint you should get these
May 18, 2015
I can't tell you how disturbingly often I see or hear about people wash their cars without certain essential tools and wonder in shock why they have scratched paint. Get these for every bucket and the price is definitely fair! It's more important than what soap to pick.
ConsDoesn't have a hand to slap people who choose to save their money on this of all things

Should be in everyone's bucket
April 24, 2015
This is such a simple must have. It does it's job leaving the grit and grime on the bottom of the bucket and keeping the wash media clean to avoid those pesky swirls ad scratches or love marks as they are often called.

What more to say, it's necessary to have in your buckets. I feel though two GGs in the bucket would work best.
ProsIt's a great product and a must have.

Simple but doesn't fit all buckets
September 8, 2014
I'll never wash a car without a girt guard inserted into the bottom of my soap and rinse water buckets. Be aware, not all 5gallon bucket will accept a girt guard, if you force the grit guard in eventually the bucket will split open.

A Must Have
September 6, 2014
It keeps the dirty water at the bottom of my wash and rinse bucket. It's simple and just works.
By EVOlved
Can you wash without these?
September 6, 2014
The answer is no!! If your not already using grit guards at least buy 2 I would buy 4 if I was starting over. I use one in my wheel and tire bucket, one in the wash bucket, and one in the rinse bucket. They are extremely simple but they do what they are supposed to.
ProsCheap Effective Keeps your paint from marring and swirls
ConsThey aren't free?

Good But Needs to Be A Bit Smaller Diameter
June 21, 2014
This grit guard works fine but the first 5 gallon bucket I put it in was slightly narrower in diameter than other buckets and the grit guard was 8 inches from the bottom of the bucket. For it to be affective I had to put three times as much water as I needed in the bucket. I found a different bucket and the Grit Guard fit better and went to about 2 inches from the bottom. I think it needs to be about a half inch narrower so it fits in all 5 gallon buckets.
ProsWorks as advertised
ConsNeeds to be about a half inch narrower so it fits easily in all 5 gallon buckets.

Simple but effective
June 18, 2014
they are very simple item but very effective keeps the dirt on the bottom and if you use a mitt and a sponge they dont settle into the dirt if you let the soak. I use one in each bucket wash and rinse. Allows you to agitate your wash media to clean it.
Prosfits nice snug in your avg 5 gallon bucket so you can scrub with it has finger holes in center to get 2 fingers in to pull it up.

I use two of these for my Rinseless washes. I grind the chenille mitt into the guard to release dirt after each panel.

Must have
April 19, 2012
Proper washing will go a long way to saving your paint. Use a grit guard in your rinse and 1 in your wash bucket to greatly reduce wash induced marring. By using the grit guard all the sand and grime fall to the bottle where you cant pick it up with your wash media. Scrub your wash media on the grit guard to release the grime. Its a must have.
ProsSimple to use Lots of colors to choose from

A Must for Washing
April 19, 2012
IMHO, you need these. I use 3 in my 2 Bucket Washes - 1 in the wash bucket and 2 in the rinse bucket. And, if you rinseless wash, even more so.
ProsEasy to use Very effective

Keeps your dirt down-low
April 18, 2012
The Grit Guard does what its suppose to. Having one or two of these in your two bucket method will help keep dirt from returning to your wash media. Once the Grit Guard is in your bucket simple drop the mitt into the bucket and light rub it againt the guard. The dirt will drop below and say below out of your wash mitt.
ProsPrice. Mutil-colors to chose from.

One of the most important tools in my wash arsenal!
April 17, 2012
The grit guard is one of those products that is so simple you say "Why didn't I think of that?". It is simple yet effective at helping to clean your wash media while at the same time keeping separation between you and the dirt you just took off a vehicle. I am actually using 2 in both my wash and rinse buckets. Since doing so I have greatly reduced my wash induced marring!!!

Grit Guard
January 30, 2012
I thought the concept of the grit guard was pretty good except the good quality wash mits I use are neutrally bouyant; they don't sink to the bottom of the bucket. Thus, the guard is not being used at all to protect the mits from the grit sitting in the bottom of the wash bucket. I would spend my $ 10 on something else. Note: the guards are probably effective if the tool you are using is laden with dirt & grime and sinks when immersed in the bucket.
